Message	used degreaser to clean some fairly nice American brand chrome mag wheels on my girlfriend's car. They were gunked up something terrible. I got all the grime off but I permanently stained the chrome finish in the process. My wheels have all this "stuck on" brake dust that I can pick off with my fingernail but won't come clean otherwise. I was tempted to use a gentle solvent, like mineral spirits, but I don't want to mess up my wheels. I guess I could try some Mother's polish and elbow grease.
